Where can agency owners learn from other owners?
Join a trade association, go to a state meeting, and find two or three owners a few years ahead of you. National groups like the Home Care Association of America and state groups hold events, share rule updates and speak up for owners. Online forums help, but check advice against your state’s rules.
Most owners learn from other owners, because the rules change and the books do not keep up. Places to look:
- Trade associations. The Home Care Association of America has state chapters, including Georgia’s. They offer networking, training and advocacy.
- State groups for agencies. In Georgia, the Georgia Association of Community Care Providers represents home and community based service providers.
- Local meetings and conferences. Even one a year gives you faces to call.
- Online groups and forums. Reddit and Facebook have owner groups. They are good for "what are others doing," less good for "what is the rule."
- A mentor. Ask an owner who has been through an audit and a rate change.
- Your vendors’ communities. Some vendors run owner meetups. Check that they are open and honest, not only sales events.
Tips:
- Ask about your own state and waiver.
- Confirm rules in writing from the agency, not from a post.
- Do not share client names or health details in public groups.
- Give something back. Answer a question; people remember.
Owners who talk to other owners often hear about a rule change before the letter arrives.
