Starting and growing

Are there courses or events for new agency owners?

Yes. The Home Care Association of America holds a national conference and state chapter days, including one in Georgia. State agency groups run training on compliance and billing. Georgia also requires new waiver providers to attend certain trainings. Check each group’s site for current dates.

Where new owners find training:

  1. National conference. HCAOA runs an annual national home care conference and a professional development program. Check its site for this year’s dates.
  2. Georgia chapter days. The HCAOA Georgia Chapter held a full-day conference in Atlanta on March 19, 2025, with sessions on federal and state rules and legislative updates. Look for the next one.
  3. GACCP events. The Georgia Association of Community Care Providers lists conferences and training on compliance, service quality and business practice.
  4. State training. Some waiver programs require provider orientation. For NOW and COMP, providers attend DBHDD orientation. For CCSP, an older state document says new providers attended an invitation-only pre-enrollment training. Confirm today’s process.
  5. Federal and state webinars. Medicaid.gov and Georgia DCH post EVV and waiver updates.

When you pick a course, ask:

- Is it about Georgia Medicaid, or home care in general?

- Who teaches it, and have they run an agency?

- Is it a sales event?

Put any compliance training into your own file, with the date. It also helps at audit time.
