Which EVV system does [state] Medicaid use?
Every state has to use EVV for Medicaid personal care and home health, but each state picks its own setup. Some run one state system. Some let agencies use their own approved system. Search ’[state] Medicaid EVV’ on the state Medicaid site, and ask which model your state uses and whether you must register.
Federal law (the 21st Century Cures Act) requires states to use EVV for Medicaid personal care services (since January 1, 2020) and home health care services (since January 1, 2023). States that miss the rules can lose some federal funding. Each state decides how to meet them.
Common setups:
- One state-selected system that every agency uses.
- A state system plus approved third-party systems that send data to it.
- Managed care plans that each run EVV.
How to find your state’s answer:
- Go to your state Medicaid agency website and search "EVV" or "electronic visit verification."
- Look for a provider page, a FAQ, and a list of approved vendors.
- Find out which services are covered, by billing code.
- Ask if you must register with the state system even if you use your own.
- Write down the support phone number and the date of the page.
Example: Georgia uses Netsmart’s Mobile Caregiver+ as its state system and keeps a list of third-party systems that connected to it.
Pages change. Confirm with the state EVV team.
