What does [state] Medicaid pay for personal care per hour or per unit?

Each state sets its own rate. It is in a fee schedule or in the waiver provider manual, often under ’rates’ or an appendix. Rates can differ by program and by service code. Find the code your agency will bill, then look it up in your state’s current fee schedule. We could not source a Georgia rate.

There is no national personal care rate. States set them, and they can change each budget year.

How to find yours:

  1. Find the billing code for the service. For example, Georgia lists T1019 for Personal Support Services and T2025 for waiver personal support.
  2. Find the state’s fee schedule. Search "[state] Medicaid fee schedule" on the state Medicaid or fiscal agent site.
  3. Check the waiver provider manual. Some list rates in an appendix. In Georgia, the ICWP manual lists codes and rates in an appendix.
  4. Check whether the unit is 15 minutes or an hour. Georgia’s EVV rounding rules, for example, differ for 15-minute and hourly units.
  5. Ask whether managed care plans pay a different rate.
  6. Ask when the rate was last updated, and whether a change is planned.

Do not copy a rate from a blog or a job post. Use the fee schedule effective for your date of service, and confirm with your state Medicaid agency.
