What do I need before I can take Medicaid home care clients in Georgia?
You need a Georgia license for the service, a legal business, and enrollment with Georgia Medicaid and, for CCSP, with the program office. Georgia’s help center says a DCH license is required for personal assistance services. An older state document adds a minimum time in business and training invitations. Confirm the current steps with DCH.
Georgia’s Medicaid waiver help center says an agency needs a license from the Georgia Department of Community Health to operate as a personal assistance services agency. To apply you need a business entity, a policies and procedures manual, proof of insurance and other documents.
For CCSP, an older state document (about 2010) lists these needs:
- Legal right to do business in Georgia.
- A current license from the DCH Healthcare Facility Regulation Division for the service.
- A business location in Georgia.
- At least 12 months in business providing the service before applying.
- Attendance at CCSP pre-enrollment and new-agency training, by invitation.
- Both the DCH Medicaid and the CCSP enrollment applications.
- An IRS letter confirming your tax ID.
- A fee for the criminal background check, and approval from both CCSP and DCH.
I would not rely on that old list for fees or timing. Rules for different programs, such as SOURCE, ICWP, NOW and COMP, also differ.
Before you spend money, call DCH and the program office, and ask for the current steps in writing.
