Visits happened before the authorization was approved. Do I still need EVV, and when can I bill?
Georgia’s EVV FAQ says visits before authorization still need EVV data, and the claim is submitted after approval. Do the visit the right way, keep the record, and bill once the authorization is in place. If an authorization is missing in the system, your administrator should contact the DCH EVV Program team.
This comes up when a new client starts quickly or a renewal is late.
What Georgia’s EVV FAQ says:
- Visits before authorization still require EVV data.
- The claim is submitted after the authorization is approved.
What that means for you:
- Your caregiver still checks in and out in the EVV system, even if the authorization is not on the screen yet.
- Keep the visit records safe so the claim can be built when approval comes.
- Do not bill for days or units outside what is approved. CMS lists billing units above the plan’s authorization as a common error.
If the authorization is approved but you cannot see it in the EVV system, Georgia’s cheat sheet says your EVV administrator should contact the DCH EVV Program team at evv.medicaid@dch.ga.gov.
Also ask the case manager whether services can start before approval. Starting without approval is a business risk. The state may not pay for some or all of it.
No Georgia page we saw gives the filing time limit for these claims, so check the Georgia Medicaid manual for agencies so your claim is not late.
