I’m enrolled with Medicaid but not getting referrals. Why?
Enrollment only lets you accept clients. It does not guarantee referrals. Coordinators look at the client’s choice, doctor advice, your county and hours, and whether you answered quickly last time. Check that your coverage area and contact details are current, then build relationships with the people who refer.
Georgia’s own information for new agencies says CCSP clients always have a choice of agencies and that enrollment "does not guarantee client referrals." That surprises many new owners.
Things to check:
- Is your information right? Wrong phone numbers, old counties, or an email nobody reads can cost you a referral.
- Do you cover what is being asked? Coordinators weigh weekend and evening needs, and whether the service is available in the client’s county.
- Do you answer? A referral packet is sent to the agency soon after a coordinator brokers services. If you do not answer fast, the next agency gets the call.
- Are you known? Doctors and families can name a preferred agency. If they have never heard of you, they cannot name you.
- Did earlier starts go well? Late starts, no-shows and missed paperwork get remembered.
What to do: call your regional coordinators, introduce yourself, give a one-page sheet of what you cover, and ask what would make it easy for them to send you clients. Keep notes on every referral you accept, decline or lose.
