Referrals & Reputation

How do I set up a Google Business Profile for my home care agency?

Use your real business name, with no keywords, taglines or phone numbers added. Home care goes to the client, so set up a service area business: choose a service area and hide your address if you have no storefront. Use one profile per business and an address that is real, not a P.O. box.

A Google Business Profile helps families and coordinators find you when they search your name or your city. Google’s guidelines are strict, and a wrong setup can get a profile suspended.

Follow these steps:

  1. Use your real-world name, the one on your sign, website and paperwork. Leave out slogans, phone numbers, hours and keywords.
  2. Use one profile for the business. Do not make several pages for one location.
  3. Use a real street address. P.O. boxes and virtual offices are not allowed.
  4. If you go to clients and do not have a storefront, set a service area and hide the address. Google says the service area generally should not extend beyond about two hours of driving time from your base.
  5. List regular hours. If your hours vary, read Google’s guidance on hours for appointment-only and varied-schedule businesses.
  6. Choose the most accurate category, and describe services in plain words.
  7. Keep your name, address and phone number the same on your website and other listings.

Home care is personal. Do not post client photos or names without written permission.

Google changes these rules. Read the current guidelines before you submit.
