Rhode Island EVV and Medicaid home care, in plain words.

Rhode Island uses Sandata for EVV, but you can use your own EVV app if it meets the state’s alternate EVV specification and 500-foot GPS rule. Personal care, homemaker, home health and consumer-directed visits are covered.

Same rules, same tangle

In Rhode Island, the visit still gets typed four more times.

The caregiver taps in. The visit goes to Sandata. Then someone in your office carries it by hand into payroll, into billing, into the chart, and to the family on the phone. Every carry is a chance for the numbers to drift. When they do, Rhode Island denies the claim, and you find out weeks later. That is Tangleware™: good tools, and an owner in the middle.

Running an agency in Rhode Island? Tell us.

CareBravo works with the EVV systems states use, including Sandata, HHAeXchange and Netsmart. Each state approves its own connection, and each program has its own rules, so we confirm what is in place for Rhode Island and your programs before you switch anything. If we are not running in Rhode Island yet, we will make you an offer to start now while we build it.

Five promises, written like promises.

  1. Nothing stops. Your current system keeps running while CareBravo runs beside it for two weeks on your real data. The Parallel Promise™
  2. 99%, in writing. On Managed Billing, at least 99% of your claims go out without a mistake we caused. If we make one, we fix it free. We cannot promise what a payer decides. Read the guarantee
  3. The floor, stated up front: $250 a month, no seats, no per-user fees, no implementation fee — and corrections never billed twice.
  4. Thirty days’ notice, either way.
  5. Nobody calls unless you ask.

What Rhode Island owners ask.

Can I use my own EVV app in Rhode Island?

Yes. Register your vendor and make sure it meets the RI Alternate EVV Specification (version 4.2, December 2024). It must capture GPS at log-in and log-out within a 500-foot geofence. Questions about alternate EVV go to rialtevv@sandata.com.

Will my claims be checked against EVV?

Yes. Rhode Island reported automated EVV validation for fee-for-service personal care claims starting 7 July 2026. Claims are matched to visit data in the Sandata aggregator, so missing or incomplete visits can stop payment. The Office of Program Integrity can also audit visits at any time.

What does the client have to do at a visit?

The caregiver should have the client confirm the service and the time, and give a verbal or written signature. Missing information creates exceptions in Sandata’s visit maintenance screen that you must fix before the visit counts. Clear exceptions daily so they do not pile up before billing.

What license do I need?

A home care provider license from the Rhode Island Department of Health for personal care and homemaker services, or a home nursing care provider license for skilled nursing care. After licensing, enroll with Rhode Island Medicaid and set up EVV before your first Medicaid visit.
